Rescue Remedy: A Calming Essence

Rescue Remedy is one of the essentials of the homeopathic medical kit, useful not only for a pregnant cow suffering heat stress but for a hysterical child with a scraped knee or a plant wilting in a drought.

A fine mist sprayed into the nasal area not only calmed the cow at Thistle Hill Farm, it relaxed her when she actually calved in her pen at Select Sale 2008 and brought her easily through the action barn separated from her brand new baby. It was a wonderful demonstration of a natural solution to a series of man-made insults on the poor cow.

Rescue Remedy is a combination of five Bach Flower Essences – Impatiens, Star of Bethlehem, Cherry Plum, Rock Rose and Clematis. Each of these flower essences has a property or characteristic that allows it to be helpful in stressful situations.

The Impatiens is related to irritability, tension and excessive reactivity. The Star of Bethlehem is for trauma and numbness, Cherry Plum for fear of losing control and Rock Rose for terror and panic. The Clematis is for the tendency to pass out, for that "far away" sensation that is found in severe anxiety and which often precedes unconsciousness.

Rescue Remedy/Calming Essence/Nature's Rescue are all the same product, sold under different names by different companies.

Rescue Remedy is used primarily for treating trauma and stress, both emotional and physical. While it is not necessarily a substitute for other medical treatments, it is effectively used to treat situations associated with crisis, such as fear, panic, anxiety and tension. Rescue Remedy has a calming and stabilizing effect on the body and the mind. It has been found to be effective when used alone or when combined with other flower essences and therapeutic modalities. It can be used with other medications and drugs as well as with homeopathic remedies without interfering with their actions.

Rescue Remedy can be used to assist with such stressful events as loss, moving, job interviews, examinations, performing and public speaking.

Rescue Remedy is used in a similar manner whether treating animals, plants or humans. It is useful in any situation creating fright, anguish, desperation, hysteria, anger or worry.

You can use it during car trips; after accident or illness; before or after a surgical procedure. Rescue Remedy is invaluable in such stressful situations as arguments, moving into new surroundings, or being absent form loved ones.

Rescue Remedy can also be used in plants and trees in times of shock, such as drought, pruning, frost or transplant stress.

Rescue Remedy can be taken orally, used topically or misted into the air. It is non-toxic, not habit forming, and free of undesirable side effects. It will not interfere with other medications.

Rescue Remedy is commonly sold as a liquid or as a cream in a neutral base.

The Rescue Remedy cream can be used for bruises, wounds, minor burns, insect bites, minor inflammations, and hemorrhoids. It can also be used on the skin in the same kind of situations in which you would use the liquid form of Rescue Remedy.

The Rescue Remedy stock liquid can be used in several ways, depending upon the situation. Several drops may be placed in spring water and sipped at intervals, or misted directly into the air (or onto a plant). It may be placed directly into drinking water or into watering troughs or tanks. The concentrate may be used directly in the tongue, or if that is impossible, may be placed on the wrists, ears, gums, nasal areas, or on pulse points. You may dilute the stock solution, four drops to a volume of water mixed with a small amount of brandy or vodka, and store this in a dropper bottle or spritzer.

Remember, the use of Rescue Remedy, and the manner in which it is used, is the same whether you are dealing with adults, children, animals, plants or soil.
