Gourmet Beef On Grass - Annual Meeting

Registration Deadline: October 15th

Saturday, Oct 27, 2007

Century House, Latham, NY

Contact:  Allison White  1-800-477-7579

All you need to know about raising top-quality grass fed beef is the focus of a day-long meeting October 27 in the Albany, NY area.

The day begins with a three-hour classroom session from the top people in the field---Jim Gerrish on the right pastures, Gearld Fry on the right animals, and Jerry Brunetti on healthy farming---and then moves on to six hours of practical experience.  The meeting concludes with the auction of cows genetically perfect for grass fed herds.

All the attendees will be taken to Harrier Fields Farm at nearby Schodack Landing for work in the chute and close examination of what “works” in the pasture.  The natural beef experts will be there to expand on their morning talks and answer questions.

All this and a “country-style” lunch of natural beef and pork for a registration price of $99.  The program is funded in part by a grant from the New York committee of the Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative and is sponsored by the North American Devon Association.  You do not have to raise Devon to attend; the information applies to all breeds.

The day begins at Century House Inn in Latham, NY (outside Albany) with an 8:30 registration and concludes at 6 back at Century House after the field day.  Attendance is limited to make sure the attendees get all the practical experience they want and the answers to all the questions they have.  Reserve a place by phoning Allison White at  1-800-477-7579 or email contact@northamericandevon.com.

Harrier Fields Farm has been in continuous operation for more than 100 years and its heritage barns match the beauty of the setting near the Hudson River.  Owner Mike Scannell’s herd is unrivaled in the grass fed industry.

Gerrish, the originator of Management Intensive Grazing, is a retired professor of agriculture at the University of Missouri.  He now lectures and consults across the country and authors a monthly column in the Stockman Grass Farmer.

Brunetti literally wrote the book on the relationship between healthy farming and healthy eating.  A cancer survivor himself, he is probably the top expert in the field of sustainable, profitable farming.

Fry certainly is the acknowledged leader in the study of grass fed genetics.  Practically single-handed, he has launched the resurgence of Devon cattle in this country.  The field day concludes with the auction of a select number of Devon cattle.
